Increasing diversity and inclusion on public lands has never been more important than it is today. The upcoming generation—the most diverse generation in U.S. history—will determine the future of our nation’s public lands and waters; and if the next generation does not feel connection to public lands, then they won’t cherish and protect them the way previous generations have. This lack of connection is particularly evident in low-income communities and communities of color, which have much lower rates of participation in outdoor recreation.

During this session, we will offer a series of practical strategies that park and recreation professionals can use to engage new audiences and diverse communities.
