Despite the lingering fiscal effects of the Great Recession, many parks departments are once again rebuilding capacity in their systems. By examining the recent experience of Grand Rapids, Michigan, through a national perspective, this workshop will show how parks departments can amplify their impact with creative collaboration with community organizations, non-profits, corporate and civic leaders, and even civilians, and augment limited resources with the capacities of the wider community.

Learning Outcomes:
Participants will connect strategic]parks and recreation goals and priorities to achievable 6-month, 1-to-2-year, and 5-year initiatives.
Participants will be able to better identify a range of outside partners to the parks department, and learn the most effective tools for engaging these partners.
Participants will learn about the various types of possible partnership structures and the areas they cover, including programming, operations, and capital improvements.
